Back in April, on a lot warmer day than today North Miami and Caston face each other. North Miami handled Caston with no problem run riling them 10-0.
Tonight was a different game with the same outcome.
It was 1-0 nothing in the top of 6 with Caston up. North Miami had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Caston intentionally walked the batter to load the bases and play the odds. The batter who had not got the ball out of the infield still did not, but it only went 4 feet down first base line and 5 feet high. Harsh made a diving attempt and the ball skipped off her mit. Had the ball been a little higher or a little further up the line. Comets would have escaped. There were two additional infield links (that were not errors just not hit hard enough to get a good opportunity to make a play and with a 3-1 lead they hit a double and go up 5-1.
Caston improved tremendously throughout the year, but on this night they struggled at the plate and lost a game because of some fluke hits.
They got better as the year progressed and improved in several categories from last year.
Caston only had three hits, but oddly enough they were all doubles. Hubenthal, Boldry, and Deming each had a double and Deming had the only Comet RBI. Comets did have two errors, but it must be noted that those errors did not cause any runs. North Miami had 7 hits, but only two found grass.
