Caston Jr High Boys Cross Country put in a strong showing in spite of terribly muddy conditions. Amidst teammates and competitors dealing with a course that had become more Slip ‘n’ Slide than grass, Austin Dague and Edison Byrum managed to turn in top 25 performances, with Dague finishing sixth in 12:17 and Byrum finishing in 13:20 for 21st. Completing the Comets scoring five were Caleb Stinson (63rd, 15:08), Marshall Finke (66th, 15:13), and Connor Sommers (81st, 15:43).
In the face of a chilly drizzle, and five previous races churning the once lovely course into a track more closely resembling a livestock yard, the Comets took the line smiling and excited. Max Sommers kept asking “Did you see everyone wiping out and sliding?!” then exclaiming “This is going to be fun!” This excitement showed through in the sixth place finish, beating out fellow Cass County competitor, Logansport, who the Comets will face again in the County Meet on Tuesday.
