Boys Varsity Comets took 14th at the New Prairie Semi-State, ending the team’s season. Mitchell Rans finished 3rd overall, with a time of 16:07. Bryan Hernandez-Rios (71st), Micah Colvin (114th), Dakota Oldfather (155th), and Luke Lowe (174th) rounded out the Comet’s scoring team. Seniors Mark Smith and Brock Buczkowski finished out the postseason varsity lineup.
Obviously, I’m sad to see the team’s season end, but I’m amazed at how far these guys were able to push. I think it’s safe to say that no one would ever bet on a school as small as ours sending a whole team to the Semi-State race, and they certainly wouldn’t bet on us doing it two years in a row, but that’s exactly what these guys have done! I couldn’t have asked for a better first year, or a better group of guys, for my first year as varsity coach. The guys who aren’t going into a winter sport have already told me that they want to keep working out this week with Mitchell (who qualified as an individual for State), and they’re looking forward to the Nike Regionals next month. I look forward to tweaking little things with the training and we’ll see if we can’t do it again next year!
