Mitchell Rans and Bryan Hernandez-Rios gave Caston a 1-2 punch with times of 16:58 and 17:26 to help clinch Caston’s Tuesday victory at the Cass County XC meet. Micah Colvin and Dakota Oldfather both also finished in the top ten (5, 17:46 and 8, 18:47), with Luke Lowe topping off the scoring five in 17th at 20:40. Also running for the Caston squad were Mark Smith (24, 21:19), Brock Buczkowski (25, 21:34) and Wyatt Brumett (29, 22:03).
The guys went into the race desperate to bring that County plaque to Caston, and it really showed in their performance this evening. I’m doubly impressed at the effort given by the runners that I share with Nars and Shelly (soccer), because they handed me their place cards, grabbed their gear from camp, and headed back to Caston to finish the soccer match that started around the time their race ended! It was a nail-biter as the runners were crossing the line. Mike Buczkowski was manually scoring the meet and had us winning by only a four point spread (official ended up at five). We got it, but we weren’t confident until Logansport was announced as runners up. We’re excited to display the County title for this year, and can’t wait to see how the guys do against the semi-state course Saturday as they compete in the New Prairie invitational.
