Cool and calm weather lead to fast times at Culver Academy Saturday. In the closed varsity race, Bryan Hernandez-Rios and Micah Colvin placed in the top 30 to receive medals (4th and 13th), while Mitchell Rans took 7th in the Elite race later in the day. All the varsity Comets ran well with Dakota Oldfather placing 44th, Luke Lowe taking 100th, Mark Smith placing 104th, Brock Buczkowski in at 117th and Wyatt Brumett coming in 121st. It’s really awesome to see these guys from such a small school all place in the top 60% of such a competitive field.
Everyone ran this course faster this year than last, with most of the guys being 1-2 full minutes faster this year than last year. This year was substantially better running conditions than last year, but that’s only a part, and a small one at that, of the improvement shown by the team. This year these guys are a cohesive team… a well oiled machine that has one goal only: push as far into the post season as they can. I’m excited to see how Conference and Sectionals go with the work ethic that these guys are showing this season.
